Looking for A Stinson

Hello all.  I've looked at Stinsons for years and am finally in a position to buy one.  I've been looking at Barnstormers and Trade-A-Plane.  I'm open to most anything but would like something that I can buy and fly, no projects.  I live in Denver so I'm thinking a 108 converted to a bigger engine is probably best but I'm open to the 165 Franklin if that performs ok up here.  I'd also like to have the baggage door so that limits me to a 108-2 or 108-3 by my understanding.

Right now I'm looking closely at this airplane.  removed link

My biggest hangup is how to figure out the value of these conversions.  I've seen two 108s with the 165 Franklin go for around $28,000 on Barnstormers but I don't have any idea if $75,000 is close fair price for a bigger engine.  My gut says it's a little high.  I just saw an ended auction on eBay for one that looked nicer and closed for $47,100.  removed link ;mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5337797875&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1

The other issues with this particular one are that it has only flown 1 hour in the last year and 515 since overhaul in 1998.  Should I be concerned with that or am I making too big a deal out of it?  The fabric was done in 1998 on the wings and 1985 on the fuselage.  From the pictures and in talking to the owner it looks to be in pretty good shape.

Any advice would be appreciated.

For some reason the site removed the links.  The one I've been looking at is the red one on Barnstormers that is listed for $75,000.  I misread the ebay sale.  The auction ended at $47,100 without meeting the reserve price.  That one is now listed in the ebay classified section for $160,000.

Not sure why the links were removed, maybe bc it was one of your first posts. Yeah that. $160K is a bit on the lunatic fringe but you never know. Most go from 30-60K.

I submitted an offer through ebay for $70,000 today.  It was declined a few minutes later as I figured it would be.  It's a really nice airplane but not $160,000 nice!

I'm just outside of Colorado Springs and preparing to list my 220hp 108-2 with tons of mods...but sadly, it's a project and I've not had, or will have, the time to finish it.  Good luck in your search.  I agree with Will, I think those are too high.  I always felt that if mine was finished and flying, it's worth around $50-55k compared to other quality larger engine ones I've seen.

Thanks for the replies guys.  It's really nice to see some perspective on prices.

Jason, not to derail the thread, but where are you at with your project?  I'd love to see it sometime.  Are you at KFLY?

I've done most of the repairs, bought everything, mostly just need assembly.  Wings still need covered / painted...have all the stuff for that as well.. you know 70% done 70% to go!  I was at KFLY, had to get rid of the hangar.  I live 5 minutes from there though and have a huge garage that is the hangar now.
