Slick or Scintilla

We just acquired 108-1, S/N 108-1040. With the 150 engine. The records are questionable and we are trying to rectify.
Question; Slick 6399 are installed. We want to check point condition and setting. We can't find a reliable service brochure/manual for this item. In the Stinson manual it mentions the Scintilla versus the eisman. But there is no directions to properly open Slick body to do the point check.
Anyone got a direction for us (volunteer ownership) to follow. I hate the "shade tree approach". No there is no AD/STC/SB in the records for this installation. Thinking a SB might clear this discrepancy. Or not.
Did search on this site and found nothing on this issue.
Thanks.
Slicks are not in the TCDS for the engine. E-238. That means there needs to be a 337 of some sort to allow installing them. Have you checked the CD from the FAA to see if its in there?
The instructions are in the L-1363F 4300/6300 Series Magneto Maintenance and Overhaul Manual.

Thanks folks for your quick reply. We will do the suggested. The current slick installation did well on the timing check after an adjustment to 28'- 30' BTDC (it was as if they thought it was a 165 with 32-34 BTDC), now have to find out how the previous operators got this done. We'll forget the point gap check as it does involve opening the mag case. Not my choice.
A follow up will be provided whether or not I find the documents allowing this installation.
Again, thanks.

Way back in the '90s when Slick first came out with mags for the Franklin they included the STC paperwork when you bought a set. They also required you to send them your old Bendix mags as "cores". Just one more way to corner a market. I actually took a tour of their factory with a friend way back then and it was pretty neat to see how they were made. So if your paperwork was never sent in I would think it would be an easy matter of getting a field approval. You might even try contacting Slick for the paperwork.

Well, this subject can be closed for now. Found SL3-92B which is for subject conversion. Also, SE110CH apparently the precursor to the SL. Just now have to ensure the appropriate 337 has been filed. Thanks to Slick Agent Joe Logie, we now have the documentation to close this topic.
